- President Trump said Wednesday that he asked Google chief executive Sundar Pichai to rename the Atlantic Ocean on Google Maps, a request that Pichai denied, The Hill reported. The president made the remarks during a rally in Clemson, S.C., where, according to the outlet, he said, "We seriously looked at the Atlantic Ocean."

The Guardian reported that Trump, speaking at a rally in South Carolina on Wednesday, said Google rejected his request to rename the Atlantic Ocean after himself or America. The outlet said the president had called Pichai about the request.

The two accounts describe the same refusal from different sides. The Hill attributed the denial to Pichai, while The Guardian attributed the rejection to Trump's own account of the exchange. Neither report, as summarized, includes further detail about the call.

The Guardian also reported that Google previously complied with Trump's demands to rename the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America, a name shown on Google Maps for US users.

The Hill reported that Trump then praised Google Maps for changing respective names, though the summary of that report does not say which names were changed.

Neither summary states whether Google has changed the name of the Atlantic Ocean on its application.
