The Guardian reported that footage released Monday by county prosecutors in Tennessee shows National Guard troops in Memphis aiming their handguns at a man who was dying on a sidewalk after a guard member shot him in the back. The report, credited to The Associated Press, is based on that footage.

According to the summary of the report, the shooting victim was Tyrin Johnson, 20, who was shot and killed by National Guard personnel in July. The Guardian said the troops had been stationed in Memphis last summer, and that they "trained their handguns on a man as he lay dying on a sidewalk."

A Memphis police officer can be heard in the footage, according to The Guardian. The summary is cut off before it says what the officer says or does, so that part of the footage is not described here.

The Guardian's summary does not include a statement from the National Guard, from the guard member who fired, or from prosecutors beyond the release of the video. It also does not say whether charges have been filed.

The Guardian described the footage as showing the aftermath of the shooting. Its summary does not describe the events before the shooting, so the sequence leading to it is not established by the material available for this report.

The Guardian's summary places the shooting in July and the troops' presence in Memphis in last summer's deployment. The summary contains no conflicting account of either point.
